- Saw palmetto, which has been hawked as good for urinary health in men to the tune of $700MM in sales annually around the globe, has now been found to be no better than a placebo in a recent study.[1]
- But another study has found that coffee helps women lower depression risk up to 20%. Unlike some studies with limited participants or short study periods, researchers at the Harvard School for Public Health tracked over 50,000 women for up to 10 years.[2] Up to four cups of coffee per day helped, but doses beyond that did not seem to increase the positive effects.
- Inventure Foods is introducing Boulder Canyon Garden Select Vegetable Crisps, a blend of 12 vegetables in four flavors. The move is in response to calls for healthier snacking options.
- In a not-so-tasty tidbit, eight deaths have now been linked to an outbreak of listeria in cantaloupes. A total of 55 individuals across 14 states have been confirmed as sickened by the outbreak, and public health officials expect more cases to turn up.
