The convenience store channel is dominated by 7-Eleven, but the retailer actually has a small share of the market, which is mostly made up of smaller players.
Indeed, 63% are run by single-store operators, with 76% owned by chains of 50 locations or less. Speedway LLC has announced it will “aggressively pursue acquisitions” according to president Tony Kenney.[1] The company’s 1,600 stores make it the 4th-largest in the channel behind 7-Eleven (5,600 stores), Alimentation Couche-Tard U.S. HQ (a Canadian chain with 2,600 US stores), and The Pantry (1,648), followed by Casey’s General Stores (1,400) and Hess(1,390). After that, no chain has more a thousand outlets, with most having 500 or less.
